At least 30 people have died after a migrant boat capsized off the east coast of Italy’s Calabria region, ANSA and other Italian news agencies said Sunday.

About 27 bodies were washed ashore at Staccato di Cutro, a seaside resort in Craton province, and more were seen at sea, ANSA said, adding that Three others were found in the water.

Adenchronos news agency says more than 100 people were on board the boat carrying the refugees and about 50 have been rescued.

Adnkronos said the boat, carrying migrants from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, ran aground during rough seas.

The Italian coast guard was not immediately able to comment.
