Anubhu Sinha’s new movie The crowdActing Rajkumar Rao And Bhumi Pednekar, has dropped its first teaser. The film is a social drama depicting the migrant crisis caused by the Covid-19 lockdown.
The 72-second teaser opens with black and white images of human destruction. We see hundreds of people homeless overnight, sleeping on railway tracks, waiting at bus stops.
A voice-over informs that while the images may evoke the Partition of India in 1947, they are actually of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic.
As the lockdown is announced, thousands of migrant workers lose their livelihoods and homes. Hundreds are stranded as state borders are sealed.
“Once again our society was plunged into darkness,” says the voiceover as the screen fades to black and white.
The crowdAccording to the makers, it was shot entirely in black and white, a rare choice for a mainstream Hindi film. Apart from the teaser, the first look images of Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar are also out. The actors are seen essaying a policeman and a frontline doctor respectively.
talking about The crowdAnubhu Sinha said in a statement, The crowd The story of the most dangerous time that changed everything for humanity. The key objective of shooting the film in black and white was to show how the scenes of social disparity during India’s lockdown were significantly different from what people went through during the 1947 partition of India.
Sinha added, “This story is about people whose lives changed in a moment and when the border was drawn inside the country, their lives lost color.”
The crowd There are also Pankaj Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, Dia Mirza, Virender Saxena, Kritika Kamra and others. The film is slated for a theatrical release on March 24, 2023.
