Ceat EnergyDrive is India’s first four-wheeler tyre made for EVs: Key differences explained

Ceat has launched a new range of tyres specifically designed for four-wheeler electric vehicles (EVs), which makes it the first tyre manufacturer in the country to do so. Known as ‘EnergyDrive‘, the new EV-specific tyre range features what Ceat calls CALM technology, which stands for CEAT Acoustic Lowering Material.
What does it do and how does it make it different from other tyres? Since EVs have no engine noise, the tyre noise becomes more evident. Ceat claims that this tyre uses a patented sound absorbing material that reduces noise by filtration and absorption of vibration. The EnergyDrive tyre also gets a new cavity design called EasyFlex, which helps in reducing the rolling resistance of the tyres, thereby assisting the electric car with a better driving range.
Since EVs deliver their torque instantly as opposed to internal combustion vehicles that take time to build up the torque, Ceat has taken that into consideration for the new EnergyDrive tyre as well. The DuraBlock technology used on the tyre range provides it with block stiffness and lower thread flexing. The better stiffness lowers the deformation of the tyres while cornering on a road, and helps the tyres last longer even while handling the instant torque delivery of EVs.
Commenting on the launch, Arnab Banerjee, COO, Ceat said, “This marks the first time that a tyre such as EnergyDrive has been launched aimed at four-wheeler EVs in India. EVs are generally very silent vehicles with high torque, making the tyre noise more evident. Our EnergyDrive range of tyres with CALM technology, tackle this problem for EV owners in the country. We hope to emerge as the preferred tyre for EV owners.”
