Check Keyword Ranking Google: Connect to Google Search Console

Let’s go to the acquisition. Search Console | Question.

Now click on ‘Set up Search Console data sharing’.

You will then need to enter a property name, defaultĀ URL, and default view.

When this is done the word ‘Success’ will flash on the screen.

It may take a few days for the data to populate but once it does you can navigate to:

acquisition | Search Console | Question.

There you will see all your data imported directly from Google Search Console, including clicks and queries.

What if you don’t see any data?

This can happen due to some reasons.

Problems connecting to Google Analytics

If you launched recently, don’t expect to see any traffic right away.
You can’t connect Google account? The integration process requires Google accounts with the same email account. If you manage more than one website, this can be a common troubleshooting issue.
Analyze Keyword Rankings in Google Analytics
Use the following criteria to analyze your keyword ranking.

This is the keyword or phrase you are ranking to get directly from Google Search Console.

Ranking alone doesn’t make sense – you also need to get people to click your link. Once you get above 100 clicks per month for a given keyword, there’s importance in tracking conversions. The more clicks you get, the higher ranking you can get. Google regularly says that clicks do not affect rankings but Larry Kim has proved it.

average position

This is what you will see to check your ranking position for each keyword. However, Google Analytics only shows you your average ranking position across all URLs. If your site’s URL appears in position 4 for one query and position 10 for another query, the average position would be 7 ((4+10)/2).

problem with google search console

The Google Search Console is helpful for displaying certain keywords that appear in Google Analytics. However, this will only tell you a fraction of the total number of keywords that people used to find your site.

I’ll explain in detail here why Google Search Console has limitations.

But let’s take a quick example to illustrate a key difference.

Let’s say I search ‘Italian restaurants in San Francisco’, not satisfied with the results, I immediately search ‘French restaurants in San Francisco’.

Google categorizes it as one search and one keyword due to the related keywords ‘restaurant’ and ‘san francisco’ and the time closeness between the two searches.

The fastest way to track keyword rankings in Google Analytics

You can get all your keywords back in Google Analytics in six easy steps.

This will result in all keywords being previously seen as ‘not provided’ since SafeSearch.

Step 1: Create a Keyword Hero Account

Step 2: Select the GA view that contains the domain

Step 3: Choose a Conversion or Goal

Step 4: Connect the correct Search Console properties

Step 5: Create an Upload Account

Step 6: Select the right plan

Setup is fairly straightforward and takes just 2 minutes.

Once you have your keywords back in Google Analytics you can start monitoring your keyword rankings in Google Analytics.

The view will look like this:

You can then set this in the Secondary Dimensions tab to get the current position for each of these keywords.

This is a custom dimension that comes free with Keyword Hero.

Why is it important to check rankings for keywords?

Ranking = Traffic = Conversions = Revenue.

The difference in traffic between the top ten snakes versus the position after position 11 is an order of magnitude greater.

Gaining visibility on keyword rankings in Google Analytics has the following benefits:

spot quick win keyword opportunity

You can find keywords that are in position 11 or 12 and use a keyword optimization strategy to improve their ranking. It’s an instant win for traffic that will flow to those keywords once Snake appears above it.

Protect brand keywords

You will assume that your company will always claim the first snake position for brand keywords. However, that is not always the case. Competitors may target your brand keywords and try to claim snake status first.

With custom position metrics, you can always keep track of your brand keywords’ moves by competitors.

Identify weak position keywords

One of your priority keywords may be losing ground because you haven’t created new content for the relevant landing page.

If you integrate keyword ranking in Google Analytics into your content strategy, you can ensure that each landing page receives a fair amount of maintenance to maintain its snake status.

Check Keyword Ranking Google : find keyword opportunities

You can search for a keyword that has a low position of 20+ on Snake. A lot of digital marketers consider this a no-go-area and not worth the ROI for SEO.

However, with a few minor tweaks to the landing page, you can snake up the air and get a windfall in traffic without much time or effort.

How do you get pages ready for republication?

You can track down keywords that are crying out for some keyword optimization.

Here is the process:

Navigate to Behavior on Google Analytics. Site Content | Landing Page.

Set a comparison time period at the top of the page. One month vs previous month is fine.

Perhaps a week is too short a period to compare.

Let’s look at bounce rate first.

We want to see any landing page where the bounce rate has increased by 10%.

Now let us see what is the related keyword for this page.

(Note: Keywords must first be unlocked for all keywords to appear)

So, now that you’ve spotted a few pages that need improvement because their position has dropped since the previous month and the bounce rate has increased. What should you do?

Consider freshness as a ranking factor. People didn’t want to read old articles. And Google changes often so a lot can happen in a month. A good example of this is at the time of writing Google has 100 results on the first page of the Serps.

This might change next month, back to 10 results on the first page. If you are writing about ten places on the first page and someone knows that it’s currently 100, they will bounce off the page as the content is not fresh.

Find conversion keywords and improve their SEO

Navigate to Acquisition | Overview | Organic Search.

Sort by Ecommerce Conversion Rate:

Now let’s bring up the custom secondary dimension (available on the keyword hero) position:

We can see that the search keyword ‘Asics Gel’ ranks 7th on the snake.

This gives us the opportunity to optimize the relevant landing page and push the position into the top 5.

Increased traffic with such favorable ecommerce conversion rate will result in more revenue due to this keyword.

By comparing month-to-month metrics including sessions, bounce rate, and ecommerce conversion rate, then adding position as a secondary dimension, we can begin to pinpoint customizable keywords.

Check Keyword Ranking Google: Five Ways to Improve Keyword Ranking (SEO)

Follow these tips to improve your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and watch your webpages rank at the top of the snakes.

Match user intent with keyword

It’s Google’s job to make sure most people find what they want on the search engine as quickly as possible. It therefore seeks to ensure that the user’s intent for the keyword search term matches the content of the page a person visits.

If someone searches for ‘guide to weight loss’ and they end up on a page that has lots of hints that it’s about weight loss, but after the third paragraph it suddenly turns out that it’s about bitcoin. About, this page will be ranked poorly by Google.

Check Keyword Ranking Google : keyword placement

If you use WordPress then you might be familiar with Yoast plugin for SEO. Getting the green light for a new page, for example, requires that you have the target keyword in the title (preferably near the beginning).

Include the keyword 2-3 times in the first paragraph and in the body text, in the alt text of the image, and in the snippet.

Also, you should include the keyword in the H2 title.

The days of keyword density are long gone. They died out long before RankBrains and neural networks, probably until 2011, when Pandas came out. So, don’t worry about keyword density.

Update your pages regularly

Google loves fresh content. Regularly updated content is seen as one of the best indicators of site relevancy, so make sure your webpages are up to date.

Check keywords on Google Analytics every month and run comparisons.

An increase in the bounce rate is the first sign that something is wrong.

scan the serp

Check out the top three snake results for each of your target keywords. This is the type of content that people searching for this keyword want to read.

Focus on User Experience

Have you been to a website where there is a color clash between the font color and the background color? You can easily check whether your website passes the contrast checker or not, if not, a few quick design changes can have a big impact on the overall UX and page ranking.

Have you ever read a blog that had long sentences and multi-line paragraphs with little white space? Chances are that if you did, you didn’t stick around for very long, because the reading experience wasn’t pleasant.
