The Malappuram District Sports Council and the Student Union of Educator Institute of Dental Sciences jointly organized a women’s marathon here on Sunday as part of the week-long celebrations of International Women’s Day.
Hundreds of women from different walks of life participated in the marathon. Former MPP K Srimathi inaugurated the marathon. Supriya B, a student of Christ College, Aranjalkoda, bagged the first prize in the marathon.
Anju Murugan of Assumption College, Kottayam and Ashriya of Christ College, Aranjalkoda bagged the second and third position respectively.
Ms. Srimathi gave away cash prizes and certificates to the winners. Powerlifter Majsia Bano flagged off the run. Chairperson of the Municipal Standing Committee Behbud Konothodi Mariyuma presided over the function.
Among the students of Educare Dental Institute who participated in the marathon, KS Namitha bagged the first prize. Misni Jose and Devika V bagged the second and third prizes.
Sports Council President VP Anil, Secretary Yasir Ansari, Executive Member C Suresh, Kaliamnal Fazal, Paloli Abdul Rahman, Educare Dental Institute Managing Director Nasar Kaliamnal, Principal Indu Shekhar, and College Union Chairperson AM Archana spoke.
