New Delhi: There is no proposal to restore or re-establish the Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANFScheme for Class 1 to 8 Students from Minority Community and Pre-Matric Scholarship, Minister of Minority Affairs Smriti Irani. Notified Parliament on Thursday.
The ministry had issued a public notice on its website late last year announcing the discontinuation of MANF and the pre-matric scholarship for classes 1 to 8, and to prevent overlap with other schemes. was offered as a correction. In a written reply Lok Sabhathe Minister said, “The coverage under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme has been revised from 2022-23 and has been implemented for Class IX and X because of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009 for free and compulsory elementary education ( classes).I to VIII) to each child. The amendment was also made to harmonize the scheme with similar scholarship schemes implemented by other ministries. He said that it was observed Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) Scheme UGC And CSIR is open to students of all categories. In addition, students from minority communities are also covered under the National Fellowship Schemes for Scheduled Castes and OBCs implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. National Fellowship Schemes for Scheduled Tribes implemented are also covered. “Since the Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) scheme is integrated with various fellowship schemes for higher education, the government has decided to discontinue the MANF scheme from 2022-23,” he said.
To another question on whether the government is proposing to withdraw education loan subsidy for minority students to study abroad, Irani said, “It has also been observed that the beneficiaries under ‘Padhu Pradesh Scheme’ The benefits of interest subsidy available to ‘ were limited and also there is a clear overlap with other similar schemes implemented by other Ministries which are also applicable to eligible students from minority communities. , in view of the limited benefits and ease of getting education loans at low interest rates, it has been decided to discontinue the Padhu Pradesh scheme from 2022-23 onwards.
